Reflecting on Friendship One Year Later
A year ago, our family was in the final whirlwind of uprooting 25 years of New Jersey life.
Selling a house where we raised three kids and closing in 30 days? Pure chaos!
Fast-forward to now, and my husband and I are happily settling into Charleston while our grown-up kids live together in NYC (a detail that absolutely warms my momma heart).
Now, let’s talk about friendships.
Making new friends in midlife can be as tricky as navigating a maze blindfolded.
But as I reflect on this past year, I’m incredibly grateful for the small seeds of friendship and community that have started to sprout. Positive relationships are key to a thriving life and have a magical impact on longevity.
It’s part of the framework I use as a Board-Certified Health Coach to help clients flourish.
First, hats off to Andrea and the gang at our favorite music spot. They didn’t bat an eye when I marched up, declared my newbie status, and announced I was in the market for friends.
Brave or bonkers? You decide!
Walking Spotty around Colonial Lake has become our daily social hour. I can now happily greet Teresa, Vernell, and Randy, my regular lake hellos.
And let’s not forget my fitness community – sure, most of the clients are half my age, but their energy is infectious, and I love getting to know them better.
Now for the pièce de résistance: happy hour with my dentist. Yes, you read that right! Dr. Suzie is a fantastic dentist and one of the super-smart, successful women I’m thrilled to call a friend. And the list of amazing new friends keeps growing.
So, on this International Day of Friendship, why not reach out to those who refill your heart and let them know they matter?
I’m definitely sending this to my crew.
Cheers to new adventures, better friendships, and living a longer, happier life! 🥂
Ps – I still miss my NJ buddies.
xo,
Julie
