Do you hate chores? Me too!

by | Apr 21, 2023 | The Walking Book Club

I hate repetitive tasks –  laundry, grocery shopping, emptying the dishwasher, taking the trash – it never ends, BUT they are all wonderful ways to increase N.E.A.T. (Non-Exercise Active Thermogenesis).

So what makes the dreaded daily chores enjoyable?

If you guessed The Walking Book Club, you’re correct!

Any activity counts in The Walking Book Club – kind of neat, right? (Check out our NEAT Activity Challenge Bingo included in The Walking Book Club e-Magazine. Subscribers who get Bingo win a Healthy-Body Happy-Mind Goal Setting Session.)

Here are some interesting findings from a recent study on the sedentary athlete, i.e., the person who hits the gym 3-5 hours per week but sits most of the remaining hours of the day.

5

Intentional exercise—going to a gym or out for a run—is not nearly as crucial as unintentional exercise, keeping their bodies moving throughout the day.

5

Incidental movements make up the bulk of energy expenditure for the average person.

5

A growing body of evidence suggests that what people do when they’re not exercising determines their actual level of fitness.

5

The average person sits 9.3 hours a day.

5

It’s not healthy for a person to exercise one hour a day and sit the rest of the time.

So while I’m not too fond of the necessary chores of life, I remind myself that they improve my health and are more enjoyable with a good audiobook – ice-cold lemonade out of lemons.

A gentle reminder, The Heart and Soul Book Chats pair authors with a humanitarian cause.

This quarter benefits Room to Read. So please consider subscribing to the quarterly Walking Book Club e-Magazine or making a single-issue purchase if you can. The purchase counts as your donation to Room to Read, an organization working to improve literacy and gender equality in education. Your support also keeps our community alive, puts you at the top of the list to chat with guests, AND gets you all the fantastic audiobook extras and inspiration for Healthy-Body Happy-Mind.

This quarter’s issue includes audiobook extras for all three group selections, The Soulmate, Glow in the F*ing Dark, and The Perfumist of Paris, for about ten dollars a month.

So let’s make a difference one step at a time.
