The Truth About Holiday Treats
(a.k.a. Why “Everything in Moderation” Is a Lie)
Welcome to Hallothanksmas Eve—that festive blur from Halloween through New Year’s where treats pop up like holiday inflatables.
And with every cookie tray or candy bowl, someone (usually a well-meaning relative) smiles and says, “Everything in moderation!”
Here’s my friendly flag on the play: “Everything in moderation” is a lie.
Yes, I adore the person who says it.
No, I don’t love what it’s done to our holiday habits.
Because here’s what “moderation” really looks like in this sugar-swirled season:
Mini candy bars from the break room (every time you walk by)
Pumpkin muffins “because it’s fall”
Thanksgiving leftovers on repeat
Peppermint bark “just because it’s there”
Takeout on busy December nights
Champagne and cookies to celebrate on New Year’s Eve
And suddenly your body is running on holiday fumes—ultra-processed chaos masquerading as festive cheer.
Let’s be real:
Most “treats” are engineered to be addictive
Most people underestimate how much “a little here and there” adds up
So, how do you navigate Hallothanksmas without turning into a gingerbread zombie?
Here’s how you take back control (and still enjoy the season):
Read labels like you’re on the naughty list patrol
Cook real food—even simple meals count
Keep better snacks front and center
Watch out for the “health halo” treats (protein cookie, we see you)
Aim for doable, not perfect
This isn’t about guilt. It’s about awareness.
You can’t change what you don’t see.
So start with your next bite.
Not because you “should”—
But because you deserve to feel good in your body this season.
