The Walking Book Club Glossary đź“’

Hello, Global Community of Book Lovers in Sneakers!

I wish I could welcome all of you with a personal high five, but for now I’m sending a virtual hug. It’s always nice to connect.

If social media isn’t your thing, feel free to email me. Your notes are Cupcake Moments of my day.

Speaking of Cupcake Moments, I thought it might be helpful to define terms frequently used in The Walking Book Club.

My Philosophies

Healthy-Body Happy-Mind When I work with clients, we look at all aspects of wellness (health) and well-being (positive psychology). Your recipe for Healthy-Body Happy-Mind is uniquely yours. Recipe for Your Ideal Day is an excellent free tool to help you better understand the elements of health and happiness, and help you discover your ideal “ingredients.”

Cupcake Moments are symbolic bite-size occurrences of positives, accomplishments, awe, validations, happiness, and the like that deserve to be savored. We cope with stress; let’s use the complementary skill of savoring as well. The ability to savor enhances a  thriving life. You can give Cupcake Moments and be mindful of when they occur in your daily life.

Group selections are the audiobooks chosen for book extras and virtual book chats. I attempt to offer a variety over the course of the year. As hard as I try, the group selections may not be to your liking or available on your platform, so you’re always welcome to opt for your own selections. You still get Healthy-Body Happy-Mind tips, coaching prompts, bonus information, and the company of others who engage the mind and body through audiobooks.

Book extras can include author highlights, contextual information, press releases, quotes, and/or questions to ponder. For example, Where The Crawdads Sing included background facts on the nature aspects used by Delia Owens, and American Dirt book extras included links to interviews and press on the controversy, in addition to facts relevant to the story.

Coaching prompts are usually posted Sunday, Monday, and Friday to our Facebook group. They help nudge you to achieve your goals. As a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach through American Medical Examiners, my goal is to help you by getting you to dream, discover, and ultimately manifest healthy, happy habits.

Sneaker Ratings are how we rate audiobooks. We give three types of Sneaker Ratings — Motivation to Move, Quality of Narration, and Overall Experience — to all our group selections.

Where You Can Find Important Posts

Popular Topics is the spot on the Facebook platform where you can find all book extras for group selections, past and present. On a laptop, Popular Topics is on the right side of the screen.

Discussion Threads are like virtual breakout rooms for each of the group selections. Please visit often and share your thoughts along the way. Book extras are also posted here. Discussion threads can be accessed through Announcements or under Popular Topics.

FYI

Heart and Soul book chats are virtual gatherings that have a philanthropic aspect to the dialogue. We initially hosted Jeanine Cummins and Yarelis Azrimendi of American Dirt and supported the International Rescue Committee’s effort to help migrants at the borderlands during the pandemic. Most recently, we hosted The Whitney Plantation Museum’s executive director for an enhanced discussion on slavery in relation to The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate. We’re looking forward to hosting Lisa Wingate and supporting her efforts with Feed America this fall. We ask that you make a donation to participate in Heart and Soul book chats. The Walking Book Club is good for the mind, body, and soul!

N.E.A.T. energy is an important contributor to health and any type of activity counts in The Walking Book Club. N.E.A.T. energy (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) is every activity we perform except sleeping or formal exercise/sports — like yard work, meal prep, housework or even fidgeting. It all makes a difference. A growing body of evidence suggests that NEAT makes up the bulk of energy expenditure for the average person; it’s what people do when they are not exercising that determines their true level of fitness.
