Audiobook Review: Terrific Fan Fiction Audiobook

When you get to chat with the author, you fall in love with the book even more!

The Walking Book Club had the special treat to host Ali Hazelwood, author of The Love Hypothesis, a New York Times bestseller, and TikTok phenom!

Here’s our interview if you’d like to watch:

Keep an eye out for Bernie, the cat in the upper left-hand corner. I’m hoping Ali will start to crochet some hats for her furry friends.

Now for the audiobook review.

If you like spicy romance, The Love Hypothesis will keep you motivated to move, especially chapter sixteen! In addition, the narrator does an excellent job at voicing both female and male characters. (I was partial to her male voices.) You might want to consider staying at a normal pace, but I listened at 1.2., slightly zippy but doable. Overall, a fun, sexy, and light-hearted romance audiobook.

A couple of fun facts about Ali and The Love Hypothesis audiobook:
  • Olive loves pumpkin spice lattes but not Ali. Just like Adam, Ali isn’t a fan, but she does love Nutella! It’s part of her Italian roots.
  • Writing helped Ali manage her stress during her Ph.D. program. Her hobby as a fanfiction writer morphed into the story of Olive and Adam. (Did you know about fanfiction? It was new to me too. In fanfiction, fans write storylines featuring characters from a particular TV series or movie. For Ali, she wrote Star Wars characters into a fictional academic setting, which evolved into Olive and Adam.)
  • Speaking of new things I learned, Ali describes Adam as a human cinnamon roll. The term originated from The Onion (a satirical newspaper) and represents people, especially fictional people, who are sweet and supportive – the “oh-so-sweet hero who is just too good for this world.”
