This Friday, May 29, The Walking Book Club is hosting NYT #1 bestselling author of American Dirt, Jeanine Cummins.
It is an amazing opportunity to interact with her and the narrator of the audiobook in a live book chat in support of Cummins’ effort to help migrants in the borderland by supporting the International Rescue Committee.
After much fanfare and celebrity shout outs, American Dirt made headlines due to the controversy surrounding it—so much so that the publisher, Flatiron, cancelled Cummins’ book tour. The Walking Book Club chose American Dirt in December, prior to this, and was able to navigate the polarizing views with respectful dialogue. Many members went on to read Cummins’ memoir, A Rip in Heaven, and Luis Alberto Urrea’s The Devils Highways to learn more about the author and topic.
There are a few virtual seats remaining for Friday’s event. Save your spot now. It will sell out. Zoom invites and links are being sent Thursday.
