About Julie
As a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, ACE certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, and counselor, I combine fitness, counseling psychology, and health coaching into what I love to call Healthy-Body Happy-Mind.
Body:
Fitness has been my passion for close to 40 years.
It goes all the way back to my days of synchronized swimming, (yes, nose plugs and gelatin-slicked-back hair) which ended when the sport was abruptly cut from the university budget. After competing in the first Olympic trials and becoming an All-American, pool time was no longer part of my daily life. I immediately missed the energy and my teammates. Teaching “aerobics” became my exercise outlet.
The fitness industry has expanded far beyond the thong leotard, but I still love helping people get fit and feel great. I hold ACE certifications in Personal Training, Group Fitness, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and Weight Management.
To this day, the energy and laughter of a shared workout fuels my soul.
Mind:
Counseling Psychology and Coaching
Before high-level credentialing in health coaching was recognized, I used my Master’s in Counseling Psychology degree to offer a safe environment to help people understand their needs and desires.
The coaching training through Wellcoaches and Saybrook University, combined with the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching certification, resulted in a powerful skill set to help people move from where they are in life to where they want to be in all aspects of wellness and wellbeing.
Heart + Soul:
My “aha” moment came while taking graduate classes for a doctorate in mind-body medicine.
My heart’s calling is advocacy and activism.
When I reflect upon the most meaningful work, it has always surrounded helping children and women. From Camp Wildcat, Backpacks for Kids, working with survivors of violent crime, chairing the renovation of a local domestic violence shelter, and most recently, Heart and Soul Book Chats, the common thread became apparent. Now more than ever, the world’s human rights struggles and environmental crisis are reenergizing my work. My vision is to make a difference in not only my clients’ lives but in the lives of others as well, which is why I expanded Heart and Soul initiatives to support various philanthropic charities.
Not only is our physical and mental health crucial, but what fuels our hearts and souls is also.
I also love puzzles! Crossword, Sudoku, Wordle, and a cup of coffee is my favorite way to start the day.
Coaching is like a puzzle too.
I love (really love) helping clients discover their corner pieces and edges that anchor what becomes the complete picture of their Healthy-Body Happy-Mind puzzle. Together, we’ll construct the complete master-piece of your Healthy-Body Happy-Mind.
I truly believe we all deserve to feel good, mind, body, heart, and soul, even with all the colorful chaos life provides. But it’s not always easy, getting support is a beautiful act of selfcare, and for those you love. Not only will you feel better, those around you will feel the effects too. Let’s find your one-of-a-kind formula for health and happiness. Allow yourself time to celebrate what’s going well and get curious about what could make you stronger and more joyful.
